  • About PDLN and the Conference

The 2020 PDLN Vienna Conference’s motto is "Changing Times". It is about the ongoing rapid changes in the publishing and media monitoring industry. The conference will give insights about recent developments influencing the market and business of of media and media monitoring. We will hear from our speakers about how legislation frameworks can support publishers and rightsholders to gain more control about the use of their content as well as speakers giving answers to questions like what new services, structures and cooperations we might see in the years ahead and how media companies will attempt disruptive technologies and future innovations.

The PDLN conference is an invitation only event for senior news licensing organisation executives from PDLN members, other licensing bodies and media monitoring and evaluation businesses. We meet in an informal setting, numbers are limited to around 60, allowing excellent networking and interactive discussion on topics of interest including market developments, legal changes and how technology is driving business change. Just as important it will allow delegates time and space to share ideas, developments and experiences from around the world. Non-members can join for the Sunday dinner, for the PDLN Gala Dinner on Monday and for the conference on Tuesday.

PDLN aims to protect and promote the interest of publishers in media monitoring services. Its members seek to encourage the development of simple, efficient market solutions to the supply and use of press information internationally. PDLN works to share best practice in licensing and supply and to create forums for content owners and users to come together to solve the challenges of improving these services. The Press Database and Licensing Network (PDLN) is an association representing organisations owned or controlled by publishers who license or supply newspaper, magazine and website material for media monitoring, press cutting and press review services. PDLN was founded in 2008 and has grown rapidly. It now has 25 members in 22 countries from all continents.

"Changing Times" is also a reference to the song "The Times They Are a-Changin'". A song written by Bob Dylan in 1964 dedicated to be an anthem of change in time.

  • The Location

    Conference Hotel and Venue

    DAS TRIEST

Our recommended hotel is the Hotel DAS TRIEST – Wiedner Hauptstraße 12, 1040 Wien

The name of the design hotel DAS TRIEST goes back to the horse-drawn mail coach route between Vienna and Trieste, established by archduchess Maria Theresia, for which the hotel served as staging post. DAS TRIEST, with a history of more than 300 years, is now the premiere address for guests who appreciate first-class hotel and restaurant design. The hotel opened in 1995, designed by the English architect Sir Terence Conran. His design is inspired by Trieste, former city of the Austrian empire, which you will notice by nautical design elements througout the building.

The old vaulted stables have become salons, suites and conference rooms with state-of-the-art technology while featuring the distinctive flair of DAS TRIEST. The newly created event room Novara offers a light-flooded atmosphere and a breathtaking view over the city centre of Vienna.

    Dinner – Sunday

    Heuriger Schübel-Auer

    Kahlenberger Strasse 22, 1190 Vienna – Nußdorf

'Heuriger' means 'this year’s' and implies 'this year’s wine'. The Viennese tradition of going to a Heuriger goes back to the middle ages when winegrowers would sell their youngest wines directly in the vineyard. Schübel-Auer with one of the oldest guest gardens at the foot of Nussberg mountain is one of the most beautiful traditional Viennese ‘Heuriger’. The original building was built in 1642 and has been run as a wine tavern since 1711, now in the tenth generation of the family.

Ludwig van Beethoven moved into the house two doors down in 1817. There have been numerous sightings of his ghost in the tavern, and there are stories about the great composer sneaking in through a secret tunnel at night to have a nip or two. We cannot corroborate any of these local myths, but you are free to investigate on your own.

    PDLN Gala Dinner – Monday

Grand Salon - Park Hyatt Vienna

    Am Hof 2, 1010 Vienna

The Park Hyatt is located on one of the most important places in the very heart of Vienna's historic city center. In Roman times the area was part of the military camp of Vindobona. The basic contours of the Roman camp are still identifiable in the surrounding streets. The name of the place 'Am Hof' means 'in the courtyard' and it was part of the residence of the medieval dukes of Austria.
The impressive building was built in 1915 as the headquarters of one of the major banks in the Austrian Empire. In 2014 the building was reopened as a hotel, maintaining the luxurious elegance of the former bank. The Grand Salon is the main boardroom of the former bank.
